Draft order generator
Set your league's pick order with a plain random draw, a spinning wheel, a weighted lottery, a card draw or a dice duel. Reveal it from the last pick to the first, then share the result with a log of every step so nobody can call it rigged.

Running a draw your league will trust
Most arguments about draft order are about trust, not luck. A few habits settle them before they start:
- Pick the method first. Agree on random, lottery, cards or dice before anyone sees a result, and do not redraw because someone dislikes theirs.
- Draw where people can see it. Share your screen on a video call or put a phone on the table, and reveal from the last pick up.
- Post the log. "Copy how it was drawn" gives the time, the method, every team's balls and every ball, card or roll in the order it happened.
- Want proof anyone can check? Use the agreed-phrase option. If the phrase was set before the draw and nobody could know it in advance, the commissioner had no way to steer the result.
In every method except the lottery, each team has the same chance of every pick. The order is drawn the moment you press the button and written to the log; the wheel and the reveal only show it one pick at a time.
How lottery odds work
A lottery rewards the teams that struggled. Each team holds some balls; a ball is drawn for pick 1, the winning team's balls come out, and the next ball decides pick 2. When the lottery covers only the first few picks, everyone else drops into standings order, so the worst team can fall only so far.
Here are the exact chances for six teams holding 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 balls, with the lottery deciding picks 1 to 3. The tool builds the same table for your own numbers.
| Team | Pick 1 | Pick 2 | Pick 3 | Pick 4 | Pick 5 | Pick 6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Team A (worst) (6) | 28.6% | 24.8% | 20.4% | 26.2% | ||
| Team B (5) | 23.8% | 22.8% | 20.8% | 27.6% | 5.1% | |
| Team C (4) | 19.0% | 19.7% | 20.1% | 26.6% | 14.0% | 0.5% |
| Team D (3) | 14.3% | 15.8% | 17.7% | 19.7% | 29.4% | 3.1% |
| Team E (2) | 9.5% | 11.1% | 13.5% | 51.5% | 14.4% | |
| Team F (best) (1) | 4.8% | 5.8% | 7.5% | 81.9% |
The worst team wins pick 1 only 28.6% of the time, but it can never fall below pick 4. The best team has a 4.8% shot at pick 1 and otherwise picks last. The numbers come from walking through every possible order the balls can come out in, not from a simulation.
Snake vs linear drafts
A snake draft reverses the order every round, so the team that picks last in round 1 picks first in round 2. A linear draft repeats the same order each round, which hands a big edge to pick 1. Most fantasy football leagues use a snake draft; some auction and keeper formats use linear. With four teams:
| Round | Snake | Linear |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Ana, Ben, Cal, Dee | Ana, Ben, Cal, Dee |
| 2 | Dee, Cal, Ben, Ana | Ana, Ben, Cal, Dee |
| 3 | Ana, Ben, Cal, Dee | Ana, Ben, Cal, Dee |

Questions about the draw
How do I randomize a fantasy football draft order?
Enter every team, pick a method (a plain random draw, a spinning wheel, a weighted lottery, a card draw or a dice duel) and press Draw. Reveal the picks one at a time from last to first, then copy the result and the "how it was drawn" log into your league chat.
Is the draw fair?
Each random number comes from your browser's cryptographic random source, and numbers that would make some results slightly more likely are thrown away and drawn again. In a plain draw every order is equally likely. Automated tests run thousands of draws to check this.
How does a draft lottery work?
Each team gets a number of balls, usually more for teams with worse records. One ball is drawn for pick 1, that team leaves the drum, and the next ball decides pick 2. If the lottery covers only the top few picks, every other pick goes in reverse order of the standings.
Can my league check that the commissioner did not rig it?
Draw live on a video call or in the room, then share the log, which lists every ball, card and dice roll in order. For a draw anyone can repeat, agree on a phrase before the draw (for example, a number nobody knows yet) and use the agreed-phrase option. Anyone who enters the same phrase, teams and settings gets the same order.
What is the difference between a snake and a linear draft?
In a snake draft the order reverses every round, so the team with the last pick in round 1 gets the first pick in round 2. In a linear draft every round uses the same order. Snake is the usual choice for fantasy football because it evens out the advantage of picking first.
Does it work for other leagues and games?
Yes. Any league, office pool, pick-up game or board game group that needs a fair order can use it. Up to 32 teams.
