Roleplaying tools
Small tools for the jobs that slow a session down: rolling odd dice, keeping turn order, building ability scores and checking whether a fight is too much. Each one runs in your browser, saves on your device, and is built on the free fifth edition rules.
- Character creatorBuild a level 1 character by tapping choices: class, background, species, skills, ability scores and gear. It fills the character sheet for you.
- Character sheetA phone-first fifth edition sheet that does the math: saves, skills, spell DC, hit points with temporary hit points, death saves, spell slots and rests. Export, import and print.
- Dice rollerAny roll you can write down: 1d20+5, advantage, 4d6 drop lowest, exploding dice. Flags natural 20s and 1s and keeps a history.
- Initiative trackerTurn order, round count, hit points, temporary hit points and all fourteen conditions plus exhaustion. Survives a locked phone.
- Point buy calculatorSpend 27 points, place the standard array, or roll 4d6 drop lowest, then add bonuses. With every legal 27-point spread and the real odds of rolling.
- Encounter calculatorParty levels plus monster challenge ratings gives the XP budget and a Low, Moderate or High rating, with warnings for risky setups.
- Token makerTurn a picture into a round token for your virtual tabletop: frame it, pick a ring and color, add a name, save a transparent PNG. Nothing is uploaded.
Which rules these tools use
There are two free System Reference Documents (SRDs) for fifth edition, both released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license: the older SRD 5.1, and SRD 5.2.1, published in May 2025 for the revised rules. That license lets anyone build on the game mechanics in them, as long as they credit the source in the exact words each document asks for. You will find those statements at the bottom of every tool page.
We use only what is in those two documents, and we say on each page which one a rule comes from. A few popular tables are not in SRD 5.1. The 27-point cost table and the standard array are in SRD 5.2.1, so the point buy calculator uses that. The older encounter tables with monster-count multipliers are in neither document, so the encounter calculator uses the SRD 5.2.1 budget method instead. The character creator offers exactly the classes, species, backgrounds and feats in SRD 5.2.1. The token maker uses no rules at all; it just draws your picture.
What you won't find here: monsters, spells, settings or rules text from books outside the SRDs, or any publisher logos. Explanations, examples, odds and code are written by us.
What comes next
We add tools one at a time and only when they are finished and tested. Next on our list are a few quick-reference pages for rules people look up mid-session. Later, this site will also carry games of our own.
